The Brain, Mind and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC) was founded in 2013 following a major grant from the European Union
(FEDER), that provided for the building and mobiliary. Another major grant from the EU allowed the installation of the functional
Magnetic Resonance Unit (FEDER).
These grants enabled a core group of scientists, then based in School of Psychology to relocate to a wonderful Granadian site,
within the University of Granada's Campus de Cartuja (near the baroque Cartuja Monstery of Granada) .
The CIMCYC's research tools included also eye-movement and EEG recording devices, plus the classical electrophysiological and
paper and pencil psychological instruments. Actually, the Center is awaiting for TMS and NIRS tools.
3. DREAMS – Development and Research in Environment, Applied Management and Space
The new Research Centre named Development and Research in Environment, Applied Management and Space
(DREAMS – http://aero.ulusofona.pt/index.php/investigacao), was born as an initiative of professors and researchers
of the Department of Aeronautics and Transports and the Faculty of Engineering of Universidade Lusófona de
Humanidades e Tecnologias (ULHT), of the Faculty of Engineering of Universidade Lusófona do Porto (ULP) and of
Instituto Superior de Gestão (ISG) belonging to Grupo Lusófona. DREAMS comprises 33 integrated members and 24
collaborators.
It may seem that DREAMS got together researchers from disconnected Groups, being simply juxtaposition of
independent research activities; far from it. In fact, DREAMS is the outcome of the collective recognition that man’s
influence on the environment has been pushed too far, making it necessary, perhaps urgent, to focus research on the
complex interactions between humans, technologies and natural systems in order to guarantee safety and
sustainability. This requires recourse to adequate applied management and engineering. Therefore, DREAMS will
give value to the production of interdisciplinary research, integrating all the mentioned aspects in the context of a
rapidly changing world.
